How can I apply for the program?
If you have a successfully finished bachelor degree in engineering, you can apply for the program by leaving your name, e-mail address and phone number on the website. For nonEU/EEA citizens there are extra requirements (see FAQ below).
After receiving your application you will provide us with your CV, short motivational statement and you will do an assignment to show us your areas of interest and ambition. If this proves you to be eligible, we will plan an interview with you to determine your motivation.
Once approved you sign up for the program and we will start the matching with a few companies of your choice. When there is mutual consent from you and the company the match is formalized and you are officially enrolled in the program. You start working and after a few weeks start your study.
Your admission should be finished 2 weeks before the program starts. The program starts in February and September.
What is the admission procedure and program requirements?
The study in year 1 is 30 ECTS. These credits are not transferable outside the institutions.
Can I get study credits for joining this program?
New Engineers is a privately funded institution offering an agile post-bachelor program at Master level. It is so innovative that it is not yet officially accredited.
New Engineers is accredited by industry and the students we serve. We work on developing the knowledge, skills and attitude the industry nowadays needs. As we are agile we are difficult to compare to a traditional university and therefore difficult to be measured by traditional standards. If you are eager to learn, boundless and if you dare to try something new, than New Engineers is a program for you.
Is New Engineers an officially accredited institution?
Every partner company has defined a challenge (a big hairy project) they want you to work on. You will work on this challenge for at least 50% of your working time at the company.
What are the business challenges companies want New Engineers to work on?
You are the one that understands the modern technology, knows the needs of the business and is the entrepreneur within the company helping to seek new opportunities and introducing innovation.
You will work towards the role you aspire and in line with your ambition and the business’ needs (e.g. lead engineer, innovation manager, project manager). You will be coached by a senior manager at the company.
What is my position in the company I'll work for?
You will work full time from Monday till Friday. In some cases there is a need to adjust the working days or hours. This will be discussed upfront.
Approximately every 4 to 5 weeks you will be out of company for a whole working week, joining us and other new engineers for an intensive learning experience.
How many days do I have to work at my company?
Yes it is. Check the requirements of your Masters course before applying for New Engineers. You can then if permitted combine your thesis work as part of the new engineers challenge.
Is it possible to join New Engineers in combination with my Masters’ Graduation Assignment?
New Engineers HQ is in Arnhem, the Netherlands. We work mainly with industry in and around Arnhem, Nijmegen and Apeldoorn area. The lecturing takes place in this area but also anywhere else in the Netherlands where we can get inspired and where learning can happen. We also organize a learning trip to Bosnia and Hercegovina.
Where is New Engineers located?
You work full time in one of the New Engineers’ partner companies. Approximately every 4 to 5 weeks you will be out of company for a whole working week, joining us and other new engineers for an intensive learning experience.
Your learning day starts at 8:00 am and ends at 8 pm. We eat, teach, learn, sport and work together during these learning days. In total you will join 8 times a learning week throughout your first year.
What does an average week on-school looks like?
As a new engineer you get paid to study and work. A newly graduated student receives a monthly salary out of which €1200 is for the student and the other part is to cover the study costs.
How much does it cost to join New Engineers?
Yes, you can apply for the program. Important to know is that Non-EU/EEA citizens need to apply for a permit for the Netherlands. And your English has a minimum of 6,5 IETLS.
There are two possibilities:
You are a graduate student at a Dutch educational institution, on BA/BSc level or higher. You can apply yourself for a so called ‘zoekjaar’ (Orientation Year) which will grant you permission to work in The Netherlands for 1 year without any salary criterion. You can apply for ‘zoekjaar’ after formal graduation but it can take 2 - 3 months before the permission is issued. The application for the ‘zoekjaar’ has to be arranged by yourself, assisted by your university. Employers do not have to arrange a work permission for you in the search year, this makes it easier to find a job.
You have graduated at MA/MSc or PhD level at an international university within the last three years. The university/ international educational institution, at the moment of your graduation, has to be listed in the top 200 of one of the general ranking lists or in the top 200 of one of the available ranking lists by subject field, that correspond with your field of study or research field.

You can apply for the highly educated ruling (‘regeling hoogopgeleide’) which will grant you permission to work in The Netherlands for 1 year without a salary criterium as with the ‘zoekjaar’ above. You also need to meet some additional requirements, like an accredited level of English language skills. The application for the ruling has to be arranged by yourself. Employers do not have to arrange a work permission for you in the orientation year, this makes it easier to find a job.
